Lab Notes: Noise Induced Deafness Cured
Noise-induced hearing loss was successfully reversed in a mouse model by regenerating the cochlear hair cells responsible for sensing sound, researchers reported in Neuron.
Hair cells are produced during early development in an irreversible process mediated by Notch signaling. Once damaged, hair cells in both mice and humans do not rejuvenate.
